Breakfast is my favourite meal ever.
There are approximately 111 breakfast recipe pins on my Pinterest boards. I want to try them ALL. The only thing is that not many of the breakfast recipes I love are dog friendly.
I know I shouldn’t feel guilty for making human food once in a while, but I do. Something about Kolchak’s hopeful, excited eyes just crushes me when I can’t share. Don’t even get me started on Felix’s face. THIS FACE YOU GUYS.
This weekend, I set out to make something dog friendly that I would enjoy too.
It all started with coconut pancakes. I try to eat gluten-free when I can and coconut flour pancakes are a Case de Kolchak favourite. I even shared my favourite recipe over at Two Little Cavaliers last year.
I also have this smokin’ cool pan that I have been absolutely dying to try. Lookit!
It’s an Aebleskiver Stuffed Pancake Pan. You fill it with batter, pop some tasty delish stuff in the centre, then flip the pancakes to make a pancake puff. Um…yeah. That sounds fantastic & delicious.
I knew I was going to stuff the human ones with spiced pumpkin cream and pecans, but that’s so not dog friendly. I decided to use what I had on hand. I pulled a few Landjaeger Sticks out of our Doggy Command Centre, chopped them into smaller chunks and popped those into the puppy Pancake Puffs. The dogs thought they were RIDICULOUS tasty.
A delicious breakfast for me and simple, easy treats for the pups using my leftovers: What more could I ask for?

PrintPancake Puffs for Dogs
- ¾ c. coconut flour
- 1 tsp. baking soda
- Pinch of salt
- 4 eggs, room temp
- 1 c. coconut milk
- 2 tsp. vanilla
- 1 tsp. real maple syrup
- Coconut oil, for frying
Preheat the pan to medium-high.
Stir together coconut milk, vanilla & maple syrup.
In a medium bowl, sift the coconut flour. (I know ¾ c. isn’t much flour, but coconut soaks up a whole lot of moisture. You’ll be surprised!) Add in the baking soda & salt.
In a separate bowl, beat the eggs until frothy, around 2 minutes or so. (Don’t skip this step! It’s important.) Add the coconut milk mixture.
Pour a little more than half of the wet mixture into the flour mixture and stir together until all the flour is mixed in. Allow the mix to sit for 5 minutes, so the coconut can absorb the liquid. Slowly add the rest of the liquid until your batter is the consistency of thick brownie batter.
Brush a small amount of coconut oil in your pan. Ladle small amounts of batter onto your pan.
Cook for a 3 – 5 minutes, until the top starts to dry and the bottom is browned (don’t look for the usual “pancake bubbles”.) Press your treat into the centre of each puff. Flip pancakes and cook for a few minutes more.
You can make dog treat pancakes, even if you don’t have a snazzy pan. (Although, guys, everyone should get one. They’re awesome. (Click here for an affiliate link to buy them on Amazon if you’re interested.) If you’re going to use a regular pan, that’s cool! Dice your dog treat pieces small, pour silver dollar sized pancakes into the pan and then sprinkle with treats, like you would blueberries.
Have you ever tried dog-friendly pancakes?
Would you consider it?
