Today’s recipe comes from Isabel and her German Shepherd Mix, Misty,
Misty is 15 years old and is suffering from strokes & seizures, so Isabel make her treats at home to help her feel better.
PrintIron Doggy Chef Competition: Banana Cheddar Barkscotti
- 1/2 cup rolled oats
- 1/2 cup hot water
- 3 tablespoons butter (or chilled bacon grease)
- 1/4 cup cornstarch
- 2 1/2 tsp. sugar
- 2 tsp beef broth ( or one beef flavor packet)
- 1/4 milk
- 1/4 heavy cream
- 3 tbsp. grated parmesan
- 1 american cheese slice (shredded)
- 1 egg
- 1 1/2 cups flour
- 3 tsp plain, sugar-free, applesauce
- 2 bananas (mashed)
Mix together the oats, hot water and butter/bacon grease.
Mix together cornstarch and sugar.
Mix beef broth, milk, and heavy cream
Stir in cheeses and egg. Mix in remaining ingredients. MIX WELL
Grease cookie sheets (2 or 3). Heat oven to 350F. Cook 30-35 minutes, until hard to touch.
Cut in strips and let cool 15 minutes. Place in container with plastic wrap lid.
*vent the plastic wrap by piercing with fork (once or twice)
Store refrigerated. Keeps for about 1 week.
(Kol’s Notes: Keep in mind that TREATS should not exceed more than 10% of your dog’s caloric intake. Consider freezing some treats to save for later.)
