Dogs love to munch on grass in the yard. Some dogs chew grass when they have an upset stomach, but many dogs just like to graze a bit everyday. For those of us without a yard, there aren’t many grazing opportunities. Wheatgrass is a dog friendly grass that you can easily grow in your home.

Spring has sprung here at Casa de Kolchak.

The birds are singing! The flowers are blooming! I SAW THE SUN TODAY, YOU GUYS! It was glorious.

This is going to be the first year that we don’t have a yard to play in or to grow things in. Kolchak and Felix are used to me growing all sorts of tasty treats for them and I’m used to having a lovely outdoor green space. We’re going to be doing our very best to create a dog friendly deck oasis and part of that is growing a bit of grass for Kolchak and Felix to munch on.

Wheatgrass is a great choice for planting as an dog friendly edible treat.

Wheatgrass is chock full of healthy stuff for your dog. It’s one of the best living sources of chlorophyll that you can find. Chlorophyll is what makes the grass green and it helps to detoxify the body and liver. It neutralizes odours and it can help to freshen your dog’s breath.

Not only is it easy to grow, it’s also super fast growing, which means it might be the first bit of lush green to grace my patio. You can buy Grow Your Own Wheatgrass Kits on Amazon (<–affiliate link), but I have something a bit more stylish than flimsy plastic trays in mind. Wheat grass gross fabulously in shallow containers, maybe I’ll even plant it in an extra large dog bowl!

As a bonus, wheatgrass planters make adorable Easter Decor when planted in pastel buckets or in plastic lined Easter baskets.

These dogs are big time grazers.

Growing your own wheatgrass for your dog to chew on is so easy.
