Kol’s Birthday Bash is coming to a close.
All week long, we’ve been celebrating all things Koly.
- On Wednesday, we decided to celebrate by giving away a tasty gourmet doggy birthday cake. (You can still enter, by the way.)
- On Thursday, we woofed all about his new birthday toy.
- On Friday, K9 Kamp came to a close and we celebrated with Koly’s favourite exercise: hiking. As a special treat, we took the whole weekend off to play and snuggle and make tasty treats.
- On Monday, we made a scrapbook page, celebrating his sweet first birthday picture and how much he loves Birthdays.
Of all the things we did, I bet you can imagine which thing Kolchak loved the most was the treats we made. Kolchak’s favourite thing is always the treats we make.
It has been warmish at Casa de Kolchak lately, so we decided to make a tasty frozen treat.
This treat was SO EASY to make. They make a fabulous KONG Stuffer or an easy pupsicle, whichever you prefer. If you’re a sucker like me and you have dogs with food allergies, you can puree their favourite meat into a meat paste or for an easier time, use your dog’s favourite meaty canned food.

Ingredients:
- 3/4 c. plain, non-fat yogurt
- 3/4 c. meat paste (or canned food)
- 1/4 c. liver treats
- 4 thin meat chews, like thin bully sticks
- 4 KONG Large Treat Toys (If you’re using a smaller size, you may need more Kongs.)
- or
- 3 oz. Paper Cups
Instructions
Paper Cup Method:
Scoop two tablespoons of plain yogurt into each cup. Place in the freezer for an hour or so.
Mix together 1/4 c. yogurt and 1/4 c. meat paste (or canned food). Scoop two tablespoons into each cup. Stick a meat chew into the center of each cup, as a stick. Place in the freezer for an hour or so.
Put liver treats in a plastic bag and crush into fine chips. Mix liver chips into the remaining meat paste (or canned food) and scoop into the cups, using a spoon or tiny spatula to ensure you spread it evenly. Place in the freezer for several hours, until frozen solid.
Run the cup under warm water to loosen, then remove the cup. Serve to eager pooches.
Kong Method:
Put liver treats in a plastic bag and crush into fine chips. Mix liver chips into 1/2 c. of meat paste (or canned food). Scoop into the KONGs, pressing it all the way to the bottom. Freeze for an hour or so.
Mix together 1/4 c. plain yogurt and 1/4 c. meat paste (or canned food). Scoop into the KONGs. Press the meat chew into the center, so that it sticks out about 1″. Freeze for an hour or so.
Scoop the remaining plain yogurt into the Kong and freeze until solid. Serve as a fun food puzzle. Layering the high value meat & liver paste in the bottom of the KONG helps ensure your dog doesn’t lose interest. (As if Kolchak would ever lose interest in anything food related. LOL!)
