Mama’s still floating high on Cloud 9 after her amazing, sleep deprived weekend at BlogPaws. Since she was
too lazy not quite ready to get back in the kitchen yesterday, we’re very lucky that our friends at Lola, Cheech Mooey’s Natural Pet Market offered to share one of their great recipes with us.
Here’s what the owner Stephanie had to say:
When I make treats for our natural pet market, I feel simple is best. Our customers want healthy whole food treats for their pets with added health benefits. This is a great treat loaded with protein for amino acids and pumpkin and carob to helps regulate the digestion process. Carob also works as a natural anti-allergic, antiseptic and anti-bacterial agent.
PrintCheech’s Pumpkin Brindle Biscotti Dog Treat Recipe
- 15oz of plain Pumpkin, fresh or canned (not pumpkin pie filling)
- 3 cups of Oat Flour
- 1 cup of Almond Flour
- 2 Tablespoon of Coconut Oil
- 2 large Whole Eggs
- 1/4 to 1/2 cup of Water (depending on moisture of your pumpkin)
- 1/2 teaspoon Aluminum Free Baking Soda
- 1 cup of Unsweetened Carob Chips, (plus a 1/2 cup for dipping or drizzling if you like)
I toss everything into the mixer or food processor and mix. Remember simple! Dough should be heavy and sticky
Divide dough into two pieces. Form each piece into a roll as long as your cookie sheet.(Tip! wet hands before handling dough) Place roll onto the prepared cookie sheet, and press down to 1/2 inch thickness
Bake for 25 to 30 minutes in the preheated oven, until golden brown. Remove from the baking sheet to cool on a wire rack. When the cookies are cool enough to handle, slice each one crosswise into 1/2 inch slices. Place the slices cut side up back onto the baking sheet. Place back into oven and cook for 10 more min then turn oven off and let biscotti remain in oven as temp drop till oven is cool(or over night)
Take Biscotti out of oven and drizzle or dip with melted carob chips. (follow melting instructions on back of carob bag)
Originally a human food Artisan Baker, Stephanie Wasniewski’s life changed courses when her pitbull Cheech started losing his hair from horrible food allergies. She turned her focus to getting him well without using medications to mask his problems and started making his treats at home.
